- What make fingerstyle so unique is that the guitar is accompanying itself. Your thumb is playing the bass notes (like the rhythm guitarists) and your other fingers are like the singer or lead guitarists. And this is all happening at the same time.
- Fingerstyle is more challenging than strumming. Your chords cannot be muted. It's recommended that you can make all the common open chords (A, E, D, C, G, Em, Am, Dm, G Fmaj7) without muting strings. You can check your chords by picking each string, rather than strumming.
- It's also more challenging because you need extra independence between the fingers on your picking hand. I will be teaching you how to achieve this in the next few lessons.
