These are quarter notes. You play them as downstrums.

TOP TIP: Speak the rhythm out loud to understand and play it.

These are eighth note symbols. You play them as DOWN – UP

TOP TIP: Be physical with your body when playing rhythm guitar. Tap your foot, rock your body or nod your head. Or do all three!!!

Homework:

Play to a metronome at 60 bpm for 2 minutes. Just downstrums to secure your time keeping.

Play both Popular Rhythms with a metronome at 60bpm for 5 minutes. Add chord changes if you like but make sure you don’t hesitate or stop your rhythm hand when changing.
