Playing Moody Bends – Lesson 10

Playing Moody Bends - Lesson 10

Playing bends is generally associated with electric guitar rather than acoustic, but 1/4 (quarter) and 1/2 (half) tone bends do happen in acoustic songs.

There’s different types of bends. To begin with we’ll look at how much we can bend. Generally bends are written with a fraction sign next to them. This identifies how much tone we bend them with.

If there’s a 1/2 with an upward arrow next to the note it means we’re bending that note up by one fret movement. So if we’re on fret 6, we would bend fret 6 so the tone is the same as fret 7. See 3.40 in the video for an example. In this song we’re bending to a quarter (1/4) which means we’re bending the note so it’s between two frets.
